Edition 1: February 1-11, 2026
Welcome to this edition’s trawl through the latest chatter, evidence, and updates on ultrasound in regional anaesthesia and POCUS. Drawing from X threads, social platforms, and fresh blog posts/literature, we’ve highlighted trending discussions, educational gems, and upcoming events. Focus is on practical takeaways for critical care pros, opioid-sparing techniques, procedural safety, and bedside diagnostics. Let’s dive in!

1. Top Reposted Threads on X: Regional Anaesthesia
High-engagement threads emphasise conference buzz, procedural evidence, and innovative tools. Here’s the standout activity based on reposts and views:
RA-UK ASM 2026 – Bristol
Check out this legendary meeting, it’s fantastic speaker lineup and get your leave in for a not to be missed meeting!

Ultrasound-Guided Central Lines – Site Comparison
A brilliant observational study shared via NEJM Clinician, notes subclavian vein access under ultrasound has fewest complications.

Neonatal Outcomes: Regional vs. General Anesthesia Meta-Analysis

36 RCTs (3,456 neonates) show no superiority in outcomes, but regional techniques (often ultrasound-guided) reduce opioid exposure. Perhaps POCUS-integrated peripartum care needs more attention.
Quiz Away!
Nice quiz to get your teeth into here, with Doppler videos showing holodiastolic flow reversal in aortic arch/abdominal aorta, differential including PDA. Classic bedside echo teaching, highlighting POCUS for rapid valvular assessment in critical scenarios like shock or heart failure.
Lung Ultrasound Tutorial
Lovely videographic breakdown of normal lung, interstitial syndrome, effusions, pneumonia, and pneumothorax. Demonstrates the utility of POCUS, as a faster modality than X-ray for respiratory queries in the ICU/ED.
POCUS Paeds!
A nice study on the number of scans needed for mastery (~29 for 90% accuracy). A nice insight into acquiring the skill and backing it up with numbers for diagnostic accuracy.

2. Highlights from Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and Facebook
Here’s what you need to see from these platforms…
NYSORA goes downunder!
State of the Art 2026 meeting (Sydney, March 27-29): brings the global anesthesia community to Sydney for focused education built around real clinical practice.
Expert-led ultrasound demonstrations, practical case discussions, and forward-looking conversations that connect technique, technology, and patient outcomes.

Want a trip to the UAE?
AURA 2026 (April 4-5): Advanced US RA & pain conference.

And more….in Asia!
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, from 10th–12th July 2026: Uniting regional anaesthesia and point-of-care ultrasound experts from across Asia.
“Beach, Blocks & Breakthroughs – Surfing the Future of RA & POCUS,” the conference offers cutting-edge updates, expert lectures, and immersive hands-on workshops designed to advance clinical skills and innovation…world-class learning where science meets the sea.

3. Fresh Evidence & Blog Posts
Zedu’s latest wrap!
The go-to wrap up! Well done guys….as ever!

UGRA – the nitty gritty!
A narrative review examining the latest advancements in UGRA techniques, evaluating their efficacy and safety, particularly for peripheral nerve and truncal plane blocks, their potential to diminish opioid consumption, and their clinical applications in perioperative care.

ASRA Reviews
Lots to slide your way through here.

A super hip# read!
Lovely piece on UGRA for hip surgery here

VR is coming to a block near you….
Well worth taking part in this trial. This study is conducted by Jason Ha, 4th year medical student at University of Bristol. The research team includes: Florence Chang, Dr Boyne Bellew, Dr Julian Cumberworth and Professor Jag Dhanda (Principal Investigator).
3D Organon is a virtual reality (VR) application used by Virtual Reality in Medicine and Surgery (VRiMS) for anatomy teaching. This study aims to assess its effectiveness in regional anaesthesia training, particularly for ultrasound-guided blocks. We will evaluate the ultrasound images of three regional anaesthetic blocks in 3D Organon. The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

Our fave podcast!
Amit and Jeff’s latest episode is out. Blocks, tips, tricks and thrown in….the worst dad jokes ever! Poor Phillip Peng (he of PENG block fame), had to endure a session with the boys!

There we are for now….keep blocking!
